Known as the father of the American craft movement, Japanese-American woodworker, architect, and furniture maker George Nakashima emerged as a leading innovator in 20th-century furniture design. In fact, Nakashima was one of the first to explore the organic expressiveness of wood, with a focus on knots, burls, and intricately patterned grain.

And now, Nakashima’s original sketches and images of his works and those of many of his successors are bound in a beautiful collectable volume produced by Nakashima Woodworkers.

“We felt the need to expand the understanding and appreciation of the time-consuming, individual attention spent on each piece of furniture we produce,” spokesperson Soomi Amagasu says.

The company’s team engaged in meetings over several years, exchanging ideas, sourcing complementary content, and capturing new photographs. The result was the stunning Nakashima Process Book.
