Art, science, and a dash of creative genius intersect in Copper in Motion, an innovative installation designed by Larose Guyon for Hotel EMC2.
The project launched when the Rockwell Group, the hotel’s owner, commissioned Larose Guyon, a Quebec company specializing in handcrafting high-end luminaires and objects, to create a distinctive piece of art for the lobby of Hotel EMC2.
The driving idea for the project was based on the machines drawn and manufactured for the New York Art Director Club in 2015. Using the concept to come up with its own way to animate objects, Larose Guyon’s design team was inspired by the zoetrope—a pre-film animation device invented by William George Horner and Simon von Stampfer in the early 19th century.
