There is an ancient Chinese custom that, starting on the winter solstice (December 22), one should draw a single plum blossom petal every day for 81 days. This tradition has helped divert people during the coldest days of the year while serving as a tangible countdown to the day when the plum blossoms peek through the frosts of early spring.
Our “Candied Walnuts” recipe creates a simple nutritious dessert for this season. Walnuts are particularly rich in trace elements and vitamins, which can help invigorate brain function and enhance sleep quality. In this recipe, we’ve balanced the sweetness of the syrup with a small amount of sea salt, offering a layered taste that’s perfect for holiday celebrations.
