A cultural soiree captivated New Yorkers, celebrating the Year of the Rooster and the exquisite Chopard timepiece boasting the spirited zodiac animal.
Here in the U.S. for the first time, Chopard’s Year of the Rooster timepiece from the L.U.C collection harmonizes centuries of craftsmanship spanning three cultures. The heritages represented were China, with its symbolism of the brave, trustworthy, witty Rooster, known as the “divine messenger”; Switzerland’s masterful watchmaking, featuring an ultra-thin movement and prestigious finishing; and finally, the hand-crafted dial showcasing Japan’s ancestral art of Urushi marquetry.
The watch’s design is captivating and lifelike as the proud rooster almost jumps out of the dial, puffing out its feathers against a sunset backdrop. Eight gladioli symbolize good luck — a warmth we all felt during the event, sipping champagne and eating hors d’oeuvres.
Master Kiichiro Masumura, honored to the rank of “living human treasure” in Japan, designed and supervised the creation of this majestic timepiece, as Urushi master Minori Koizumi meticulously crafted it. The Urushi masters cultivate their craft over a lifetime, honing the skill to set tiny, purpose-cut mother-of-pearl fragments inside a hardened lacquer, giving the dial its iridescence and radiance.
This Far Eastern nobility is married with Chopard’s Swiss nobility of L.U.C watchmaking. It boasts an extremely thin haute horlogerie self-winding movement, using a micro-rotor made of 22k gold. Two barrels ensure a substantial 65-hour power reserve, and bevelled and polished chamfers, polished screws, and bridges adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif make Chopard Manufacture’s craftsmanship perfect for the modern gentleman who loves subtle, refined details of luxury.
Guests also had the rare opportunity to customize a Happy Diamonds watch — the iconic timepiece for today’s cosmopolitan woman.
