Located in Roubaix, a city in northern France, La Piscine Museum of Art and Industry recently hosted its first exhibition for an artist from Taiwan — Sophie Hong, a one-of-a-kind creator.
Sophie Hong’s story begins with her determination to find the perfect silk, a search that took across the entire Asia-Pacific region. After years of research, travel, testing, and manufacturing, Hong Silk was born. Sophie inherited an ancient technique for weaving and dying silk typical to Southern China and breathed new life into the process.
We had a great dialogue with Sophie, and she opened up about her life’s journey, from when she first discovered the hidden treasure of tea silk thirty years ago to her creative process, and how she designs clothing to create a timeless style.
