The 34 year old Academy Award for Best Actress nominee Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network, Lion) is known for her consistently glowing, radiant, and healthy-looking skin. Mara doesn’t wear much makeup in her daily life and her beauty regimen is based on botanicals.
All-Natural, Two-Ingredient Skincare Multitasker
Rosewater is one of Mara’s go-to beauty products. Rosewater is made with only two ingredients, rose petals and water, its uses are many; it can be a perfume, a facial toner, an antioxidant-rich skin protector, an antiseptic, and even a treatment for sore throat.
One of the greatest benefits of rosewater is its strong anti-inflammatory properties that help with clearing one’s skin. Rosewater is also used to reduce skin redness, sooth skin irritation, and brighten one’s complexion.
Well Hydrated Lips Are Naturally Beautiful
The skin on our lips is thinner than our facial skin. Mara uses lip balms and moisturizers by Olio E Osso.
Olio E Osso company was founded by a mother who had trouble finding all-natural, non-irritating moisturizers for her infant son’s sensitive skin. She created her own using olive oil, shea butter, beeswax, and grapefruit.
Pure Oil To Calm And Sooth Irritated Skin
Another favorite of Mara’s is Calm Pure Radiance Oil by True Botanicals.
This natural skincare product is intensely soothing and is suitable for even very sensitive skin. The moisturizing oil is packed with ingredients that are proven to comfort your skin.
Pomegranate and grape seed oils are among nature’s most powerful antioxidants to fight free radicals, reducing visible signs of aging. Helichrysum, another key Calm Pure Radiance Oil ingredient, is well known remedy for irritated skin.
Mara’s Dressing Table Is a Fragrant Garden
“I think scent has great power,” she says. “Certain fragrances can evoke all sorts of memories and feelings.”
Rooney Mara is the face of Givenchy’s perfume L’Interdit, which was Audrey Hepburn’s perfume. “It felt very special to be asked to be part of bringing the fragrance back to life,” says Mara, whose appearance and aura are Hepburnesque.
“The fragrance feels quite rooted in something storied — an age-old desire to be bold and to push forward — but it is also quite modern,” she says. “Everything about the Givenchy brand has always felt like that to me.”
Long-lasting Relationship With Givanchy
The beautiful actress has long been known to favour Givenchy designs on the red carpet. Her first time wearing a Givenchy design was for the London premiere of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in Decemeber 2011. She’s worn Givenchy numerous times on the red carpet since then, including, perhaps most notably, Met Gala in May of 2018.
“[Givenchy] designs are utterly romantic and feminine but also feel quite modern and edgy,” says Mara. The Givenchy gowns she’s worn have often been lacey and flowing, in light, neutral colours, but with edgy details, such as zippers or geometric cut-outs.
Beauty Is Not Limited To Who You Are On The Outside
While a woman’s toilette and dress contribute to her beauty, that beauty is rooted in the heart, Mara says, in “being self-possessed and compassionate.”
Mara oversees the charitable Uweza Foundation, which supports children and families in one of Africa’s largest slums, Kibera, in Nairobi, Kenya. Other causes close to her heart include animal rights and “any organization that gives assistance to refugees.”
