Dior Harnesses the Strength of the Water Lily in Its New Cleanser

A one-of-a-kind flower, water lily,  planted the seed for Dior’s new addition to its skincare line: a unique mousse that takes cleansing to an all-new level. 

The new Dior Mousse OFF/ON, a light silky formula that lathers into an airy foam, owes its detoxifying properties to the extract of the water lily, a blossom that not only goes back millions of years, but that also is one of only four flowers originating from the Earth’s first-ever flower still in existence. 

The water lily has a long-standing history with Dior. The flower is grown in Dior’s Latour-Marliac Garden in Lot-et-Garonne. Founded in 1875, the garden was the vision of horticulturist Joseph Bory Latour-Marliac, who won first prize in his category at the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris. It was there that the colourful petals floating in the Trocadero ponds caught the eye of Claude Monet, who promptly ordered the flowers for his own garden in Giverny where later they inspired his world-renowned masterpiece The Water Lilies. 

Latour-Marliac’s deep connection to French cultural heritage has led to the garden being known as the first ‘arti-cultural’ Dior garden, as it remains faithful to its founder’s values and ensures the sustainability of the original French water lily species. 

The lily’s resilient nature piqued the interest of Dior laboratories, where research uncovered that this aquatic floral has the surprising ability to purify the water and ecosystem in which it grows, oxygenating and trapping impurities. Harnessing these abilities in its root extract, Mousse OFF/ON was formulated to trap and eliminate pollutants and heavy metals from the skin, supporting the skin’s natural detoxification process. A cornflower water complex and liquorice extract enhance the soothing formula, making it suitable for sensitive skin and effective for any care routine. 

A special harvesting process ensures the extract molecules are preserved with optimum potency: rhizomes are cut then immediately chilled and treated with liquid nitrogen injections. Regeneration is also kept in mind, with each rhizome harvested in a way that enables one of its shoots to be replanted to preserve the water and local environment. The result? A promise of naturally glowing skin for generations to come.
