The Hôtel de Glace: Two Decades of Magic
Made entirely of snow and ice, this architectural marvel remains the only ice hotel in North America
The Hôtel de Glace, Québec, Canada invites visitors to relive the best moments of this world-famous winter attraction. The very special 2020 edition is held under the theme, “20 Years of Magic” and offers the best of each past edition.
For the occasion, artists and artisans of the Hôtel de Glace (Ice Hotel) were given carte blanche to create sculptures, ornaments and themed suites that recall various concepts presented over the years: From Ancient Greek to Asian inspirations. “We wanted to pay tribute to the best moments from the past 20 years, but also try something new by giving our artists even more creative freedom,” says Sylvain Lauzon, president and chief operating officer at Calypso-Valcartier Group.
Artistic Tribute to Québec’s Rich History
With the support of Québec City Tourism, artists have also paid tribute to the richness of landscapes, history and finest attractions of the Greater Québec City area—where Hôtel de Glace has been located since its very beginning.
The hotel’s vast recreational space, the Fun Zone, will dazzle its visitors with a swirl of lights on ice, an enchanted forest, and a snow sculpture of the Saint-Louis gate. Throughout the Hôtel de Glace, and even in some of the rooms, guests can enjoy sculptures and artworks that evoke the beauty of the Greater Québec City area.
True Winter Wonderland
Made entirely of snow and ice, this architectural marvel remains the only ice hotel in North America. The Hôtel de Glace features Great Hall, chapel, ice slide, exhibitions, beautifully ice-sculpted rooms and suites with ultra-comfy arctic sleeping bags for a luxurious night’s stay after a day of once-in-a-lifetime winter exploration. The hotel’s Nordic relaxation area welcomes visitors with hot tubs and a sauna under the stars.
To mark its 20 years, the Hôtel de Glace will come alive to host a number of activities and events scheduled throughout the season. Between late December and March 29, 2020, visitors can celebrate this anniversary edition with a tour of the themed suites, ice bar, and ice chapel.
On January 17, everyone is invited to attend the Desjardins Grand Opening Night featuring an outdoor performance by the popular music band 2Frères, followed by fireworks to kick off the 20th season.
Among the many activities to include on your winter calendar this year, make sure to pencil in a story-time visit with Bonhomme Carnaval on January 24 and Arctic Spas’ spring awakening, a family-friendly activity to be held on the last weekend of the season, March 28 and 29.
