Inspired by the Hermès Collier de Chien bracelet, the Maison has introduced its first chypre scent—Barénia. Here, the limpid curves of glass meet precious metal, while the sensual aroma reveals its magnetic essence upon contact with the skin.
Crafted by Christine Nagel, Creative Director of Hermès Perfumes, this fragrance balances delicate and bold elements. It opens with the soft scent of butterfly lily, complemented by unexpected notes of miracle berry at its heart. Warm oakwood and patchouli provide lingering depth in the drydown. Barénia embodies a sense of timeless elegance, seamlessly melding with the wearer’s essence.
Giving the fragrance its name, Barénia leather—a hallmark of Hermès—inspires the chypre composition with its fine, supple texture and warmth. Just as the leather intimately connects with the body, the fragrance becomes part of the wearer, evoking a sense of freedom and boldness. The design reflects the spirit of Hermès’ iconic Collier de Chien bracelet, originally crafted as a dog collar but embraced by women in the 1920s as a symbol of independence.
Longtime Hermès collaborator Philippe Mouquet designed the fragrance bottle, drawing inspiration from the design codes of the Collier de Chien. The bottle features an elliptical shape, accented with a metal plate and contoured studs that echo the bracelet’s lines and materials. This thoughtful design results in a piece that embodies both heritage and modernity.
In addition to the perfume, the Barénia line will feature a perfumed body cream—housed in an elegant glass jar—and scented soap engraved with the iconic Hermès “H” logo, creating a complete fragrance experience for a full-body ritual.
