Taking design to a new level of ingenuity, the new collection of Louis Vuitton handbags emerges from the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and renowned architect Frank Gehry.
The two have a long history of working together—from designing the Foundation Louis Vuitton building in Paris and the brand’s store façade in Seoul, to collaborating on handbags, trunks and a dedicated fragrance line. The Louis Vuitton x Frank Gehry project, however, marks Gehry’s first foray into designing a complete handbag collection.
The unique lineup will present 11 exclusive, limited-edition pieces in a synthesis of Gehry’s creative vision and Louis Vuitton’s savoir-faire. Structured around three thematic pillars—architecture and form, material exploration, and animals—each bag narrates a distinctive design story.
Among the highlights of the capsule are showstoppers like the delicate Capucines Mini Blossom bag, made with glass-like resin petals in an exquisite tribute to perfume bottles, and a hammered LV logo.
In the whimsical Capucines MM Floating Fish bag, vibrant red fish appear to leap from the smooth white leather, an effect achieved through intricate 3D leather and sequins marquetry work, with bas-relief scales adding textural dimension.
Lighthearted energy defines much of Gehry’s style, captured in playful pieces like the Capucines Mini Puzzle bag. To craft the design, lambskin pieces were treated with a hand-painted aquarelle print, then individually shaped and delicately positioned to form a bouquet of interlocking petals, akin to an artful jigsaw pattern.
Gehry’s avant-garde edge comes through in the technical Capucines MM Concrete Pockets bag. The piece was created using 3D cement-effect screen-printing on the calfskin exterior to mirror the varied textures found in Gehry’s architectural creations.
The complete Louis Vuitton x Frank Gehry collection will be available for purchase at Louis Vuitton’s new Vancouver boutique—the largest in Canada—which opened its doors in December inside the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.
