Marking Nicolas Ghesquière’s 10th anniversary as Louis Vuitton’s creative director, the brand’s Fall-Winter 2024 collection is a walk through a decade of some of the designer’s most iconic designs.
Tinted with nostalgia, the collection reinterprets archival pieces through a modern lens, taking viewers on a retrospective journey highlighting the evolution of Ghesquière’s vision.
Blending the season’s must-haves with elements from the past, the collection presents graphic motifs, ornate embroidery, and architectural tailoring. Among the throwbacks to past collections are jackets embellished with stones and metallic embroidery recalling the 2018 Louvre show, asymmetric-hem gowns evoking the 2017 Rio show, and shimmering skirts echoing the 2021 show.
The collection also focuses on Louis Vuitton’s storied savoir-faire and travel legacy, unfolding through avant-garde accessories, silk photo prints of the famed monogrammed trunks, and high-tech performance details accenting tracksuits and jackets—a subtle nod to Ghesquière’s affinity for the sci-fi genre.
The futuristic element extended into the show’s setting at the Louvre Museum in Paris, arranged by artist Philippe Parreno and designer James Chinlund. The scene resembled a luminescent glasshouse, which, thrumming with energy and illuminated with sculptural chandeliers, served as the perfect complement to Ghesquière’s trailblazing aesthetic.
