A lifelong passion for ancient Eastern philosophy and the power of art have forged the artistic path of renowned titanium jewelry artist Aka Chen.
Deeply rooted in nature and Eastern aesthetics, Chen’s museum-quality titanium jewelry weaves together the rich traditions of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, capturing not just the beauty of nature but also its essence.
Chen tapped into his artistic talent at a young age, eventually finding his calling in the realm of titanium jewelry. After establishing his acclaimed brand, AKACHEN in 1989, Chen discovered the use of titanium, a material he deemed unparalleled in expressing the interplay of light and shadow.
This interplay is at the heart of Chen’s work, and titanium emerged as the ideal medium to manifest this vision. Reflecting a spectrum of colors after electrochemical treatment, titanium conveys an enigmatic quality that recalls Eastern ink painting. Working with the challenging medium, however, requires expertise in goldsmithing as well as mechanical and chemical engineering, which has fueled Chen’s determination to push the boundaries of the craft.
