With its pleasing antique gold colour and elegant luster, brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has a long history of usage in various fields—from metal fittings in architecture and shipbuilding to the arts and Buddhist altar equipment.

The colour of brass changes over the course of many years due to the oxidation process. This doesn’t take away from the value of brass products; the passage of time only adds to their richness and character.

Building on the metal’s distinctive properties, the Japanese brass foundry Futagami has dedicated its work to highlighting the strength and beauty of brass since its founding in 1897 in the city of Takaoka in the Toyama prefecture.

Futagami’s Ihada soup spoon makes for a lovely gift to turn meals and entertaining into an artful experience: a diamond-shaped handle feels satisfyingly solid in the hand, topped with a round head in a silver-plated hairline finish. The contrast of metals lends a modern touch, easily blending into any cutlery or dining set colour scheme.
