Classic Revisited: Louis Vuitton Unveils Le Damier Jewellery Collection
First introduced in 1888 by Louis Vuitton and his son Georges, the iconic Damier pattern was created as a distinctive mark of the brand. Inspired by the digits of its birth year, this checkerboard motif quickly became a symbol of infinity and authenticity.
Now, the new Fine Jewellery collection, Le Damier de Louis Vuitton, reinterprets the iconic Damier design with a contemporary twist. Featuring twelve pieces in white and yellow gold—including rings, bracelets, pendants, and earrings—the collection showcases a modern take on the classic checkerboard pattern with gold squares and diamonds. The geometric aesthetic imparts a sharp sophistication to the pieces, perfectly complementing the gold’s organic forms.
“Le Damier de Louis Vuitton embodies what modern jewellery is all about,” comments Francesca Amfitheatrof, Artistic Director for Watches and Jewelry. “It is a diamond collection that is not just about the stones but the pattern that they create.”
The collection’s signature piece is the versatile ring, offered in three widths for stacking, layering, or wearing solo. It comes in two distinct designs: one featuring two rows of gold and diamonds for a refined, everyday look, and another showcasing a bolder style with four rows of gold and diamonds.
Also highlighted in the collection is a bracelet inspired by the classic tennis bracelet. “I thought about the classic tennis bracelet – always in motion and always on your wrist,” remarked Amfitheatrof. This design pays tribute to a memorable moment from the 1978 US Open, when a match was paused after a player lost her diamond bracelet.
The collection is rounded out with a sleek, circular diamond pendant on a slender yellow gold chain, and a pair of sculpted, stacked hoop earrings, both reflecting the geometric Damier theme. Each piece in the new Le Damier de Louis Vuitton collection captures the maison’s timeless aesthetic and iconic pattern, enriching its legacy with a touch of contemporary flair.
