Two decades after their groundbreaking collaboration, Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami are reuniting to unveil a reinterpreted collection: Louis Vuitton × Murakami.
Featuring over 200 meticulously crafted pieces, this revival pays homage to the original partnership while offering a fresh take on the designs. The 2003 collaboration, led by Marc Jacobs, first reimagined Louis Vuitton’s iconic monogram across a range of products. This re-edition elevates that concept with cutting-edge printing techniques and enhanced craftsmanship, resulting in sharper details and more vibrant colors.
The collection spans leather goods, shoes, accessories, and objets d’art, all infused with Murakami’s vibrant signature aesthetic. The Japanese artist is renowned for his distinctive style, which merges traditional Japanese art with influences from sci-fi, anime, and the whimsical kawaii characters that often appear in Japanese visual art, film, and pop culture. Among these are his iconic Superflat designs—a colorful, two-dimensional style that blends elements of nihonga, anime, and ukiyo-e woodcuts. This playful art takes center stage in the collection through the cheerful Superflat Panda and Superflat Garden motifs, which adorn perfume bottles, sneakers, keychains, and more.
Another highlight is the Monogram Multicolore, which brings Louis Vuitton’s legendary monogram to life in a kaleidoscope of 33 vivid colors, featured on some of the brand’s most iconic bags, including the Keepall, Speedy, Dauphine, and Capucines. Other standout pieces include the Cherry Blossom motif adorning Papillon bags and sandals, as well as the LV Hands logo showcased on Alma BB bags and silk scarves.
To commemorate the launch, Louis Vuitton has planned an immersive global rollout featuring window displays, pop-ups, and a captivating advertising campaign. Following an exclusive pre-launch on the LV app on December 27, the first chapter will debut worldwide on January 3, 2025. Subsequent chapters, including a spring-inspired Cherry Blossom series, will be released later in the year.
