Overlooking Las Vegas, a strikingly minimalistic home by Faulkner Architects creates moments of intimacy and tranquillity in the heart of the desert

At a breathtaking plot in Summerlin, Nevada, where the glittering lights of the Las Vegas Strip fade into the stark wilderness of the Mojave Desert, a new home brings together the best of both worlds.
Designed by Faulkner Architects, Red Rock was conceptualised as a contemporary family home for six, including a fashion model wife with strong style sensibilities. Spanning 11,780 sq ft, the house takes its name from its westward neighbour, the rugged Red Rock Canyon—clearly visible from the property’s elevated plot.

“Red Rock Canyon is formed by layers of red Aztec sandstone and grey limestone, which creates a direct reference for the materiality chosen,” says Gregory Faulkner, FAIA, Principal Architect. “The intent was to engage with this geographic form and share its grounding energy. Meanwhile, the architecture represents a contextual conversation between the desert landscape and the city.”
