“For me, constructing a clock is a playful and fascinating experiment,” Miki Eleta says. “I try to surprise myself without worrying about failure.”
For the Swiss clockmaker—whose diverse background ranges from social scientist to soccer coach and kinetic artist—this philosophy is what drives his complex, one-of-a-kind handcrafted timepieces. Following the Haute horlogerie tradition, each of Eleta’s Swiss clocks is a masterpiece capturing his fascination with time, innovation, and kinetic art.
The Svemir—the name referring to the Croatian term for “universe”—is one of the most interesting of these creations: a remarkable Swiss clock that took Eleta months to complete. The result is the ingenious combination of two astronomical models, geocentrism and heliocentrism, into one cohesive design.
