The Lunar New Year speaks of fresh starts and new beginnings, but also of an ancient rhythm that has lasted for thousands of years. For legendary watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre, the year 2023 marks the unveiling of a new iconic timepiece: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Tourbillon Moon.

The lunar calendar is, as per its name, based on the graceful dance of the moon; and this latest piece captures the mystique of this beloved heavenly body. Powered by a self-winding Calibre 983 mechanism to track time’s passage with precision, the watch spotlights Northern and Southern Hemisphere moon phases on the white dial. The tourbillon is displayed underneath, surrounded by a peripheral date display.

A brown leather strap adds a masculine edge to the softer pink gold case and elongated hands. The timepiece is showcased in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new campaign, featuring one of its global ambassadors, young Chinese artist Jackson Yee (Yi Yang Qian Xi).
With the theme “Moments Made of Gold,” the campaign is shot in a red and gold setting dedicated to the traditional colours of the Lunar New Year and features an oversized Art-Deco-style golden sculpture of the letter ‘M’, which stands for the ‘Master’ in the watch’s name.
“The New Year is a time for joyful celebration but also for quiet reflection on the golden moments that we’ve already experienced and those we can create in the future,” Yee says.
“To me, this watch has special meaning because the moon governs our Chinese New Year but also because its timeless elegance is like an anchor in a world that seems to be spinning faster all the time.”
“With the change of the year, [the watch] symbolizes the relationship between reality, time and our dreams for the future.”
