After joining Tiffany & Co. in 1956, legendary designer Jean Schlumberger left an indelible mark on the company’s creative direction, especially after designing the iconic mounting for the Tiffany Diamond.
Today, Schlumberger’s vivid imagination and design philosophy are now inspiring a spectacular new collection. Launched by Tiffany & Co., the Blue Book 2023: Out of the Blue collection breathes new life into Schlumberger’s legacy while honouring his unique vision of showcasing the enigmatic creatures of the ocean in a fresh geometric and stylized aesthetic.
“With Blue Book 2023, we saw an opportunity to honour Jean Schlumberger’s legacy by giving new life to some of his most celebrated designs,” says Anthony Ledru, the company’s CEO.
The collection debuts in two phases, the first featuring seven distinct themes. The exuberant hues of the Coral theme showcase designs adorned with tanzanites, sapphires, and yellow diamonds. The Jellyfish theme portrays the graceful movement of jellyfish tentacles in striking brooch designs.
Pisces pays homage to the sea’s vibrant life, featuring exceptional unenhanced padparadscha sapphires, Umba sapphires, and diamonds. The Sea Star theme mesmerizes with custom-cut mother-of-pearl starfish entwined with coral-inspired motifs, brought to life by exceedingly rare padparadscha sapphires, Umba sapphires, mother-of-pearl, and carnelian.
“In Jean Schlumberger’s imagination and design philosophy, the sea represented an unknown, infinite world,” says Nathalie Verdeille, chief artistic officer of Jewellery and High Jewellery at Tiffany & Co. “My first Blue Book collection for the House is a deep dive into aquatic life that both honours and reimagines Schlumberger’s vision.”
