‘Tiffany in Color’ Exhibition Offers Rare Glimpse at Tiffany’s Iconic Glass Masterpieces
With their elegant form and vivid use of colour, the iconic Tiffany lamps have been admired for over a century, with some models so rare that only one or two in the world are on display.
Now, for the first time, New York’s Macklowe Gallery presents a remarkable exhibition of these legacy treasures: a collection of museum-quality Tiffany lamps and glass that allow art enthusiasts and potential buyers to experience and acquire exceptional pieces.
Titled Tiffany in Color, the collection takes viewers on a guided journey, unveiling the innovative methods artist Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of the company’s founder, employed in his pursuit of glass manufacturing excellence.
Famed for his globalist approach and mastery of materials, the artist revolutionized the art of glassmaking, ushering in an era of vibrant hues and breathtaking dimensionality.
The exhibition’s visitors will discover some of Tiffany’s most remarkable pieces, including the naturalistic Peony lamp, the extremely rare Bat lamp, and an array of glass objects that epitomize the artist’s aptitude for infusing global influences with a distinctively American palette.
“It’s a true honor to unveil Tiffany’s pioneering approach to color,” says Ben Macklowe, president and second-generation owner of Macklowe Gallery. “Although Tiffany’s work was created during a finite period, its impact continues to resonate even after a century.”
The Tiffany in Color exhibition is open to the public, with free admission from May 19 to June 30, 2023, at the Macklowe Gallery, 445 Park Avenue, New York City.
