Ever since its debut in 1997, the Fendi Baguette, designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi, has secured its status as one of the first “it bags,” coveted by fashionistas and glamour seekers alike. This must-have style statement is returning as part of this year’s Fendi Summer 2021 Capsule collection.
Created in collaboration with visual artist Sarah Coleman, the Baguette 1997 reinterprets the iconic under-arm silhouette, with its slim rectangular form and flappable handle. Capturing the essence of its dynamic vibe and transformations over the years, versions from vintage-kitsch sequins to pink lizard skin are returning. The newest addition to the lineup is the Fendi Summer 2021 Capsule FF Vertigo pattern, a twisted, visually distorted take on the designer’s iconic monogram, showing up in psychedelic yellow or blue coated canvas, traditional tobacco jacquard fabric, or canvas embroidered with archival floral motifs.
The new release also tributes its silver-screen legacy by starring in its very own cinematic production—a short video series titled The Baguette Walk, featuring French actress Ana Girardot with her girlfriends: Spanish creative Maria Bernad, Chinese model and painter Nini Li-Yun Hu, and model Fatdwa Diawara, enjoying a girls’ day out on the town in beautiful Paris, accompanied, of course, by their trusty Baguette 1997.
