It has become a beloved May tradition. For over 110 years, Guerlain has celebrated spring with a new iteration of its legendary Muguet perfume. The eloquently composed fragrance, presented in a limited-edition Bee Bottle crafted by exceptional artisans, is a tribute to the delicate lily-of-the-valley blossom.
For the release of Muguet Millesime 2023, also marking the 170th anniversary of the iconic Bee Bottle design, Guerlain tapped the talent of ceramic artist Karen Swami. Inspired by the graceful shape and smooth texture of lily-of-the-valley, Swami has crafted a creamy white bell of six oversized petals draped over the neck and shoulders of the bottle.
The piece was brought to life by the workshops of Porcelaine Arquié in Limoges, France, in an extensive collaboration process requiring the production of 5,000 flowers according to Swami’s prototype. To evoke the blossom’s leaves, Guerlain has turned to Ateliers Vermont to fashion an intricately embroidered pale green tulle bow that ties around the bottle’s neck.
The Muguet Millesime fragrance itself is a refreshing twist on the classic: a verdant opening of leaves, sap, and moss, leading to a heady floral bouquet of jasmine sambac, rose, and lily-of-the-valley essence, all extracted from a precious harvest carefully selected by the perfumer. Once again, Guerlain accomplishes a work of art that celebrates perfumery and artisanship alike.
