In Journey of a Jeweler, Silvia Furmanovich offers more than a retrospective of 25 years in fine jewellery. The book unfolds like a tactile map, threaded with memory, material, and cultural encounters that have shaped her distinct practice.
Born in São Paulo to a lineage of Italian goldsmiths, Silvia Furmanovich inherited not merely a craft, but a sensibility: one attuned to the rhythms of nature, the intelligence of the handmade, and an instinctive eye for beauty. Her journey has spanned continents, from the dense biodiversity of the Brazilian Amazon to the disciplined ateliers of Kyoto and the weaving villages of the Andean highlands. Yet what emerges is not a record of travel, but an archival reverence for craft as cultural memory.
Her jewellery, formed as much from gold and gemstones as from Amazonian wood, hand-painted silk miniatures from Uzbekistan, and lacquered papier-mâché from Kashmir, extends the language of adornment. Each material is not only a medium to be mastered, but also a story to be translated.
